WIPs and Chains

Ok so before you misinterpret (not that you would, of course!) no, I'm not into ... ummmmm ... whatever it is that you're thinking.
No no no pull your minds out of the gutter! LOL! WIP stands for work in progress and chains are all that I'm tatting on these two WIPs I'm doing.
See? Very harmless and innocent isn't it?

On a side note before we get to these WIPs, you may be wondering what the hey happened to me, right?
Well my computer died and with no funds to get a new one I'm out of luck.
I do, however, have this handy dandy iPhone and waddayaknow There's an app for that! Yup, blogger has an iPhone app so I'm doing this on my phone. Yes, it's taken me this long to figure it out.

So without further adieu let me share my WIPs and chains with you for a tittlating blog post...
I'm making lanyards. Here are some photos
I have no idea how this is going to turn out with the phone app thing but we'll give it a go.

A Bookmark for Tiffanie is Done!

Hello there darlings! Some of you may remember this post "A Bookmark for Tiffanie"! Well, it's done now and sent off to it's rightful owner. She did happen to tell me she likes it! THAT'S good news! Okay, she said she LOVES it and that it was exactly the way she envisioned it. WHEW! How often does that happen? Well, so anyway, here's the finished product before I sent it off all cutsied up with some scrapbook supplies surrounding it for "effect" (you know)...gotta have effect. It's FUN!

So, until next time...

International Tatting Day 2012

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL TATTING DAY!

So just what is International Tatting Day?
It is a day, April 1 of each year (no joke), where people who tat hand made lace sit around and eat chocolate and tat a little and eat chocolate and then tat a little more and then eat more chocolate. Now,hopefully they are doing this with friends who also tat, but if not then it's all the more chocolate for themselves, right?

I plan on spending Tatting Day this year with a friend of mine named Julie. She is the chair of the Bonneville Tatters Association. She is a very sweet friend who is supplying the chocolate and I will be showing and telling some new goodies.

Personally, I think I am getting the sweeter end of the deal.

But first of all I wanted to show you what I made for Easter!

Look at these new Easter Eggs!

Oh and these new Easter Baskets!!
Do you like them? I made them myself out of a type of drying doll making stone clay. I rolled out the dough and then texturized and painted them myself! YAY~ Yay for Easter Stuff.

Oh so what do those Easter Eggs and Easter Baskets have to do with tatting or Tatting Day, you ask? Well did you just think they were just plain old Easter Ornaments?

HECK NO!

Those are Tatting Shuttles. Well, actually they are flat, artistic, self stylized flat tatting shuttles, to be exact. Let me show you!

See, there are slits in the corners of the tatting shuttles. Here is tatting Shuttle 1. It is wrapped with Lizbeth Thread Size 20. The color is Azalea Med. You can see both sides of the shuttle here and how one side is made to look like an Easter Egg and one side to look like an Easter Basket!

Nifty, Aye?
Okay, I'm bragging now so please excuse me.

Now onto Shuttle 2:

So here is Shuttle 2 wrapped in Lizbeth Brand Thread size 20. This color is Seagreen Lt. I've also taken both sides of the shuttle so that you can see that one side is painted like an Easter Egg and one side is painted like an Easter Basket. In case you are curious the sides on both shuttles are painted brown like the sides of the Easter Baskets and the Easter Basket Handles.

Now to see if it can tat?

Well, can it tat?
We shall see!

I have decided to try out

Here is Round 1 on Shuttle 2 with Seagreen Lt size 20.

This is starting on Round 2 with Shuttle 1 and Lizbeth size 20
Azalea Med. I have used one of Lady Shuttle Maker's
Hook Pens for size reference if that helps at all for some people.

Well, this should give you an idea of what I'll be tatting for Tatting Day! I hope you have a wonderful day tatting as well!

Happy Tatting!

A Bookmark for Tiffanie

Hello Hello!

I recently met a friend who because we were in a similar circumstance we became fast friends. She found out we are of the same faith and also that I happen to make hand made tatted lace. Through our conversations and a particular shared spiritual experience I offered to make her a tatted bookmark for her Scriptures. Honestly, I cant remember if she asked for one or if I offered because the feeling of her seemingly wanting one and my wanting to make one for her seemed so strongly mutual.
She distinctly wanted YELLOW and TURQUOISE.
Well, I searched high and low for those colors. Lizbeth threads most certainly makes them but they weren't for sale at the local Hobby Lobby, but they were available in Rayon thread. All the more appropriate for my friend, Tifanie's bright and beautiful personality, knot to mention her strength.
So Tifanie, this is for you.

Evidence that your bookmark is a work in progress...right here...right now during General Conference weekend I'm making it for you... It's a work in progress, Tiffanie... Just like you and me, girlfriend. We are both works in progress, are we knot?
And yes....my dear friend, that pun was intended. See, tatting is made of a bunch of knots...

XOXO

P.S. Oh and this was GingerSnap trying to get in on the photoshoot. She was feeling rather left out at the fact that she couldn't be the center of attention and she wanted to say HELLO!

Demonstrating Tatting at The Handcart Days in Bountiful, Utah

Hello my bloggy friends! I guess it's been awhile, hasn't it? A lot has happened in my life since we last "spoke"... I guess I've got a lot of explain' to do, but before we get into all that let me share with you about what I did today! I went with someone from my local tatting group, "The Bonneville Tatters" to "The Handcart Days" in Bountiful, Utah and demonstrated tatting! It was really a nice day and we shared the lovely art of tatting with quite a few interested parties!

I even captured part of the day in some pics! Here, let me share them with you!

First, here is my partner in crime, Nannette.
She is tatting away diligently at something.
She even gave me permission to share her
pic on my blog! Wasn't that nice of her?

You can kind of get an idea of our table layout from this picture!
We had all kinds of tatted goodies we were displaying.

Of course as luck would have it the project I
was working on had a ring that wouldn't close
so I wasn't a very good "demonstrator"... LOL!

Here are some close ups of some of the tatted
goodies we were displaying...

...we had tatted lanyards and necklaces.

tatted brooches, snowflakes, earrings, doilies, bookmarks,
hearts, and of course, tatting shuttles!

This pictures shows a piece with some cluny work
that I haven't shown on my blog before and a pink
bookmark that Rozella Linden sent me once.
Yes, "THE" Rozella Linden...She has written books
on Celtic Tatting. Some of my tatting friends that are
involved in the online community may know her by her
real name "Ruth Perry". She also sent me a tatting shuttle...
...but that's a whole 'nother blog post! ;)

We were in an Art Center in Bountiful so there was a
bounty of beautiful artsy pieces to look at!
I snapped a few pics of things that caught my eye!

For instance this intriguing and beautiful necklace
was on display right behind us!
Isn't it gorgeous?
It looks like it was made out of all natural pieces.

Then in the center of the room and in front
of our table was this beautiful children's dress.
It was gorgeous!

Well, that was my Saturday! How was yours? Feel free to share what you think about our day at "The Handcart Days" in the comments! I've missed my bloggy friends but it's been hard to blog without a camera handy! I will share more in the near future now that I have a camera!... or well, actually...camera software!
(((huggles)))

XOXO
